Boasting Dutch nationality, his origins trace back to Germany, where his father served in the Dutch Air Force. Presently, he resides with is partner and son in the maritime town of Vlissingen in the southern Netherlands.
Early life and education
His maritime journey embarked at 18, upon returning from Germany to the Netherlands. Commencing his studies in Marine Engineering at the Maritime Academy, it became evident that this was the path he was meant to traverse. Post-apprenticeship on luxury cruise liners with Holland America Line, he advanced to university, achieving Chief Engineer credentials.
Career trajectory
In 1988, upon graduating high school, he faced a pivotal decision in shaping his life's trajectory. Opting to return to the Netherlands, he enrolled in the Maritime Academy to pursue studies in Marine Engineering.
By 1992, he embarked on his maritime career as a cadet engineer aboard his first vessel with Holland America Line. The following years, an opportunity to elevate his career presented itself, prompting him to pursue further studies for Chief Engineer qualification (all ships).
In 2000, his journey with Holland America Line took on a new dimension. Joining the new construction team, he represented the company at a shipyard, overseeing the construction of a large cruise liner. Subsequently, he joined the vessel on its maiden voyage.
In 2005, faced with a challenging decision, he transitioned from his active seafaring career to establish a more stable life ashore. Embracing this change, he assumed the role of Project Leader at Amels Yacht Building in Vlissingen, Netherlands, delving into the intricacies of yacht building and the broader yachting industry.
In 2007, seizing a new opportunity, he joined the Marshall Islands Shipping Registry as a Flag State Inspector, swiftly ascending to the role of Safety & Technical Manager. In 2011, the Registry entrusted him to focus specifically on the yachting segment with the result of a promotion in 2020 to the position of Director of Yacht Operations.
