As a member of the Nieuwspoort press centre in The Hague, Roeland Associates, a communications and lobby consultancy, was invited to the presentation of the Anne Vondeling Award.
This award is presented annually to journalists who are able to express politics in a qualitative and clear manner. The award consists of a statuette and a substantial amount of money.
The professional jury, consisting mainly of former Editors-in-Chief, awarded the award to Lamyae Aharouay of the NRC-Handelsblad.
This year, the award was presented by the National Ombudsman, Mr. Reinier van Zutphen. In his speech, he gave four examples from his practice where the Dutch press
falls short in reporting because they do not have an eye for the right angle. The National Ombudsman had prepared very well. He gave the half-hour speech completely from memory, clearly and captivatingly.
Truly one of the three best speakers we have ever experienced! A lot is happening in Nieuwspoort! It is a meeting place for politicians, journalists and representatives of the business community and social organisations.
Since its foundation in 1962, Nieuwspoort has been closely linked to the House of Representatives. The press and debate centre stands up for the protection of freedom of speech. The weekly press conference of the Prime Minister takes place in Nieuwspoort.
