Trump’s latest #ExecutiveOrder calls for the aggressive development of #deepseamining to secure “critical minerals” like cobalt, nickel, and rare earth elements — essential for electronics, defense, and clean energy tech.

The goal 🥅?
• Reduce dependence on foreign mineral supplies (thanks to his trade war tarifs 🙄)
• Boost “economic competitiveness.”
• Claim a piece of the deep ocean before others do.

Sounds strategic 🧐?
It’s a catastrophic miscalculation. 📉

Here’s why:
• Deep-sea mining obliterates fragile ecosystems that took millions of years to evolve.
• It creates sediment clouds that smother and kills marine life across vast areas.
• It releases carbon stored in seabed sediments, accelerating global warming 🥵.
• It threatens critical oceanic processes that regulate our climate and produce over half of Earth’s oxygen 💨

All this — for a handful of metals we could recycle ♻️ or source more sustainably by #sustainablemining

Tearing apart the ocean floor to “save” the economy (he already destroyed) is like burning down your house to warm your hands - Short-sighted - Violent - Irreversible.

We don’t need more extraction. 
We need innovation, conservation and just a minimum of common sense.

It not just words its a promise: If we lose the ocean, we really do lose everything.
