One year ago, 28 National Boxing Federations came together in Frankfurt where WORLD BOXING held its inaugural Congress. It was an important milestone in this comeback story for Olympic-style boxing that we jointly keep writing today.
On that day, I was honored to be elected President of our young and ambitious organization, to lead the way alongside a remarkable group of fellow World Boxing Executive Board members.
Over the past twelve months, we have remained increadibly active, persistent and dedicated to our mission. It has been increadibly challenging and yet remarkably fruitful period.
The entire World Boxing team has been working tirelessly every day to secure boxing's place in the Olympic Movement. Today, we are much closer to that goal than ever.
A year after the inaugural Congress, World Boxing proudly boasts 55 member federations across all five continents, with many more applications currently under review.
We are completing the first year of high-quality competitions, including our first U19 World Boxing Championships. Next year, we will host our inaugural Elite World Boxing Championships and the host city Liverpool is already preparing for it.
On May 8, 2024, World Boxing held its first formal meeting with the IOC to discuss the pathway to preserving the Olympic Dreams of boxers. We have attended Paris 2024 in an official observer capacity.
Later in the year, we established an Olympic Commission to support and assist in developing this pathway. Additionally, World Boxing has gained the support of key stakeholders and
influential figures within the sport, such as 1996 Olympic Champion Wladimir Klitschko. We’ve secured commercial partnerships with Nike and Sting. Our team is conducting negotiations with potential additional sponsors and investors.
I would like to thank the entire World Boxing family for the trust in me and our team. My gratitude to all World Boxing National Federations for sharing our common mission of preserving Olympic-style boxing for future generations.
I also deeply appreciate the boxers, coaches, technical officials, fans, and everyone involved in our tough but inspirational journey to transform the sport of boxing.
Together, we will undoubtedly return our sport to the Olympic Program and ensure its sustainable development.
