STOP MEGALOMANE RESTORATION BINNENHOF!
By invoking the Open Government Act (WOO), the AD had the scoop that the renovation of the Binnenhof in The Hague, which started in 2021, will again take years to complete and the renovation costs will be considerably higher than originally budgeted.
Not 475 million. (2015) only 2.1 billion and delivery in 2030! The explanation for the increasing costs is higher safety and sustainability requirements.
This was not news to me because I heard this already in mid-November from The Hague insiders at a museum sponsorship dinner. In fact, they assumed an even more expensive scenario and 2030 will certainly not be achieved.
So the renovation is not even halfway through. Isn't it better that we pull the plug on this megalomaniac project? Give the Binnenhof a different purpose.
Hotels, restaurants and other catering establishments and also create expensive owner-occupied apartments on the Hofvijver that finance the restoration.
Give the Mauritshuis museum, which is located right next to the Binnenhof, the part that connects to the museum, including the Tower and the Trรชves Hall. And above all, scrap that new expensive parking garage.
After all, there are plenty of parking garages in the area. The House of Representatives is now in a budget for 161 million. renovated former ministry on the Bezuidenhoutseweg.
No one complains and everything functions well. Why return to the Binnenhof? In Europe there are more examples of parliaments that have exchanged monumental buildings for a modern and efficient building.
