Max Levchin

Maksymilian Rafailovych "Max" Levchin (Ukrainian: Максиміліан Рафаїлович Левчин; born July 11, 1975) is a Ukrainian-American software engineer and entrepreneur. In 1998, he co-founded the company that later became PayPal, where he played a key role in developing anti-fraud measures and co-created the Gausebeck-Levchin test, an early commercial CAPTCHA challenge used to differentiate humans from automated bots.

Levchin is also the founder or co-founder of several other companies, including Slide.com, HVF, and Affirm. He was an early investor in Yelp, becoming its largest shareholder by 2012, though he stepped down from a leadership position at Yelp in 2015.

Additionally, Levchin served as a producer for the film Thank You for Smoking.
