When did LinkedIn stop being “the world’s largest professional network

When did LinkedIn stop being “the world’s largest professional network
When did LinkedIn stop being “the world’s largest professional network”?
And when did its mission — “to connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful” — start shifting elsewhere?
Maybe the better question is: who shifted that focus?
Like in every ecosystem, the answer is simple: us, the users.
It happens everywhere:
🌳 A forest, exsists to sustain life... yet get overexploited.
🐟 The ocean is a vital ecosystem... yet turns into a dumping ground.
🌇 A city, built to improve life... yet becomes chaotic and overwhelming.
🖥️ Even Technology meant to connect us... can turn into constant distraction.
And the same in happening here.
LinkedIn was born as a professional network, but over time it has become a mix of content imported from other platforms:
videos, reels, constant reposts…
The “repost” feature especially acts like a multiplier:
one piece of content spreads… and the noise grows.
And unlike nature, there’s no automatic balance here.
The quality depends entirely on the community.
Over the years, I’ve chosen to step away from other platforms to focus on what really matters to me in how I use social media:
👉 My work
👉 My skills
👉 Meaningful connections
But today, it's getting harder.
Finding valuable content takes effort:
you have to scroll, filter, search.
And this is not about judgment — it’s about context.
Some content simply belongs elsewhere.
💡 Maybe it’s time for a simple reflection:
Not everything we want to share belongs everywhere.
Every platform has its purpose.
And maybe it’s time to apply a sort of “content sorting mindset”.
✳️ The goal isn’t criticism — it’s about restoring value.
Using Linkedin again to:
↗️ Grow professionally
🔄 Share work experiences
↔️ Build meaningful connections
And leave the rest to more suitable spaces.
I am curious to hear your thoughts.
