And that's okay. Too often, top performers are promoted to manager, while leadership requires a completely different skill-set.

Leadership is not about you. We hear it so often: “Leadership must be authentic.” But let's be honest... isn't that just an excuse to stay within your own comfort zone? This isn't me.”

Now that we're going on a bit of a rebellious and critical journey... I'll just say it: I don't believe in that. It suggests that there is one, unwaveringly “real” way of leading for you.

As organizations we want to grow, but too often we stifle the most powerful drivers of change: critical thinking and challenging each other. Too many companies get stuck in sustainability - where people do not challenge each other, critical voices are adopted and "this is how we always do it" remains the norm. Standing still means going backwards.

🪞 The Mirror I always talk about the mirror... The famous mirror that you regularly get in front of you when you are challenged.... In this mirror you only encounter yourself, and how you deal with this determines you as a Leader. A true leader inspires his team members to grow through his own entrepreneurship in self-reflection and introspection, not only in skills, but also in personal traits and as a human being. From here he creates new Leaders.
